java-mobile compatibility
« am: September 22, 2005, 10:50 »
What an absolutely fantastic idea, using your mobile phone to store all your blood test readings!  Congratulations to the folks at SiDiary for implementing this.  :)

However, I do have one small question/problem - are there likely to be any further bugfixes/upgrades for the java mobile client, as I'm running it on my new Sony-Ericsson w800i, and finding it very helpful, EXCEPT for the fact that I can't synch my mobile and my PC, not by Bluetooth or by normal file transfer.  :kratz:

Is this problem one that's likely to be solved or not?

Cheers,
StuPC

Hi StuPC,

thanks a lot for your post. Of course we are always fixing errors or working on workarounds, including the Java-package.

Unfortunately there's one constraint with the bluetooth-sync, which isn't a bug but a feature. :(  :nixweiss:

Some manufactures decided to not grant bluetooth access to Java applications. That means that although your mobile has built-in bluetooth functionality probably Sony-Ericsson has no support of "Java-Bluetooth". This is a problem that are discussing many many Sony-Ericsson mobile users about in other forums. We definitely know that S.-E. K700i is one of such mobiles which have bluetooth support but it's denied to all Java apps.  :mauer:

We will try to provide alternate syncing procedures but so far there's no applicable way of transferring your data... :-\

Patrik will check, if your w800i also has no Java-Bluetooth support...

Cheers, Alf.

Ahh...
Thanks very much, Alf - that actually explains quite a few other things, too!  :)  Tsk, stupid Sony-Ericsson.

I assume something similar also explains I can't synch using the connection cable as well?

Best,
Stu

Exactly! The S.-E. doesn't have a file system like the Symbian os mobiles... :-\

But it could be a valid idea to provide a sync based on "Java-Wire"Class instead of "Java-Bluetooth"?!

Patrik????
Both would be serial communication, do you see chances for that??

Cheers, Alf.

Hi StuPC, Sony Ericsson w800i should support both Java-Bluetooth and File-Access packages. What can you see under "Menu->Navigation->Maintenance" ?

patrik

Hi StuPC, well, this is if you go to 'Menu->Navigation'. But you have to go to 'Menu->Navigation->Maintenance'. What can you see?

Terribly sorry, Patrik - your written English is fine, it's my reading of it that needs improving.  :rotwerd:

Right, my 'phone has the following:

BT Synchronisation
File Synchronisation
Delete Data
Check avail.mem

However, SiDiary always fails to discover any connection when any of these options are activated on my phone.  If I try to synch using my PC I get the message that I do not have the SiDiarySmartSynch software installed, even though I've installed absolutely everything.

Best regards,
StuPC

Hi StuPC,

did you install it as Administrator.
I had the same problem while working as a restricted user.
Some dll#s couldn't be registred.

bye
